An Abbreviated History of Circus Krone
21.10.1870
Birth of Carl Krone
The legendary circus king was born as the second son
of manege-theater owner Carl Krone Sr. and his wife
Mrs. Friederike Krone, nee- Philadelphia.
Feb. 1872
Birth of the Menagerie Continental
Entrance for adults: 20 Pfennige,
children: 10 Pfennige.
1888
Monsieur Charles
at the age of 18, Carl Krone jr. performed with
great success, his first animal act.
1892
"Pascha" high atop a horse.
Premiere of a central cage with a caged entrance.
The lion "Pascha" on a horse, is the sensation of
Menagerie Continental.
1893
Introduction of loge - and parkett seating.
The traveling manège introduces seating for the
guests. The prices: Loge 1,50  Mark, Parkett 1 Mark,
Standing room 50 Pfennig.
01.02.1900
Carl Krone assumes control of the menagerie.
After the death of his father, Carl Krone takes over
the directorship of menagerie. The organization is
systematically enlarged with the acquisition of new
animals.
12.07.1902
Carl Krone marries Ida Ahlers
Marriage takes place with the 23-year old daughter
of a showman during lunch break. A honeymoon is
not in the cards as the work takes precedence.

Menagerie Charles
Die Menagerie Continental is renamed as
Menagerie Charles. The first station under
the new name: the Oktoberfest in Munich.
1903
The new tent
On the Bremer Freimarkt the new tent is dedicated.
It is the largest tent among the show tents at the
large Volksfestplatz.
1904
Miss Charles
Ida Krone assumes the duties of training the lions
from her husband. As Miss Charles, she presents
a Lions' Breakfast with 24 adult Berber Lions in the
central cage.
28.05.1905
The Menagerie becomes a circus
The "Circus Charles" celebrates its Premiere in a
36 meter tent on the Customs Office property in
Bremen.
1909
The circus grows
Enlargement of circus: Chapiteau with 4.000 seats
1913
Circus Krone
Carl Krone baptizes circus in its present form as:
"Circus Krone"
15.04.1915
Birth of Frieda Krone
In the Wien Uni-Klinik the only daughter of Ida and
Carl Krone is born. She receives the name: Frieda.
10.05.1919
The first permanent Krone Building on the Munich
Marsfeld. Circus Krone Building is constructed of
wood with a capacity of 4.000. The premiere takes
places during the unrests of the soviet republic.
In spite of an evening curfew, the presentations
are great successes.
1924
Carl Krone, the king of the German circus with
8,000 seats celebrates a circus premier of the
superlative. Performances are simultaneously
conducted in three maneges and on two stages.
1928
Dedication of the 10.000 person tent.
Mammoth show with over 650 animals, of those
27 elephants in the manege, presented by Carl Krone.
Circus Krone was in command of over 1.000 persons.
31.05.1932
School holiday for the city of Munich.
Grandiose parade with artists and animals through
the inner city to the Theresienwiese. Over 100.000
spectators experience the spectacle along the
parade route.
07.12.1935
Marriage of Frieda Krone
Frieda Krone marries the young animal trainer
Carl Sembach. The son of a civil servant came
in 1933 to Circus Krone as a wild animal trainer.
27.11.1936
Birth of Christel Sembach-Krone
The 4. Generation of Krone-Dynasty is born.
1939-1945
The second world war
In spite of the rigors of war, Circus Krone continued.
In the summer tour with the tent circus, in winter
performances in the Krone Building Munich. Almost
every performance interrupted by air alerts.
04.06.1943
Carl Krone dies in Salzburg
Tomb situated the Munich Waldfriedhof Cemetery
in the family-Mausoleum.
21.12.1944
Destruction of the Krone Bau in Munich.
The Krone Bau, through aerial attacks fully destroyed.
Humans and animals are evacuated to the Krone-Stud
Farm Wessling.
11.11.1945
First performance after the war.
At the request of General Patton, on the occasion of
his birthday, the circus performed its first guest
presentation after the war in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
24.12.1945
Premiere in the Krone Building,
which was reconstructed after its destruction. It is
not an opulent edifice, but a fully serviceable,
temporary building.
08.04.1957
Ida Krone dies
The wife of circus founder Carl Krone and mother
of Frieda Krone dies in munich.
23.12.1962
Dedication of the third of the present Krone Building.
The entire city celebrated the gala premiers as 3.000
guests filled the most modern circus building in Europe.
1967
Zirkus-Krone-Straße
At the initiative of the then Lord Mayor of Munich,
Dr. Hans Jochen Vogel, the adjoining street is
renamed Zirkus-Krone-Straße.
18.01.1984
Death of Carl Sembach
The father of today's circus-director Christel
Sembach-Krone dies at the age of 75.
02.11.1995
Death of Frieda Sembach-Krone
The mother Christel Sembach-Krone died at the
age of 80.

..... and today : "Circus Krone, the largest circus in Europe"
The only organization with a permanent circus building in Europe for the
winter season and a spectacular tent circus during the summer season.
