Our Animals - Elephants

The heraldic animals of Circus Krone

The
playful
pachyderm
herd of
Circus
Krone,
made up
of four
Asian-Indian
and three
African
elephants.

The heraldic animals of Circus Krone
The three older Indian elephants, Mala, Bara, Burma
and Dehli tip the scales at an awesome weight 3,5 tons.
The 20-22 year old African "young stars" Aisha, Sandrin
and Kenia weigh "only" 2,7 tons and are extremely playful.
It is said elephant years equate to human years.
The dominant female, Mala, is 42 years old and is an experienced
and mature "lady". From the begriming she has been protective of
the three younger elephants, warding off unwanted guests with
her trunk and is always with her "Kiddies" in the paddock.

The elephants undertake their traditional circus march to their performance
location from the train station, having arrived there in a specially outfitted
compartment. The elephants march at pedestrian tempo from the station
with trunk attached to tail. It is as if they were marching through the lush,
green jungle with overhanging branches.

The above description pertains only to the time previous to 1999. The
elephants now travel in their specially designed vehicles from city to city.
